Foggy Inspiration

We had a late night, and a very early morning. I got the boys down for a nap at 7:10, that may give you an indication of how early I was awake.

Josh was asleep, the boys were asleep, the apartment was quiet, and it was beautiful outside, so I went for a walk. All. On. My. Own.

dscn2986It has been raining a lot here lately, as it has for most of the south-east US, so the boots were a must this morning.

dscn2989dscn2993I love foggy mornings, everything’s blurry and out of focus, that shape in the distance could be a bush, or it could be bear, or a troll. Everything has the potential to be anything else.

dscn2996And with fog comes dew.

Until next time,

This week in the World of Slimming 1/19/17

I have lost my mojo.

I don’t know where it went, but if anyone would like to help me find it, by giving me some inspiration or just telling me that I’m fat and need to lose weight, then that would be much appreciated.

Even though I ate Whataburger, Raising Cane’s and a whole bag of mini Reese’s cups, I did manage to lose 2.2 pounds. The only reasons I lost weight this week was because I inadvertently skipped meals, and managed to fit some exercise in.

So, here we go again, trying to refocus and get my head back in the game. I want to win, and the lower the score on the scales the better.

Wish me luck!

Until next time,
Laura x

Our Anniversary

Eight years ago, on December 20th, Josh and I said “I do.”
We spent our first anniversary in Houston, our second in San Antonio, third in England, then everything kind of went to hell with visa issues and delays, so we didn’t get to celebrate number four. Five was a low-key, little-finances-available celebration, and the next two were kept small due to me pregnant and not feeling ‘up to much’.

This year was going to be different.

We’re in the same country, Josh has a great job, we’re financially stable, and I’m not pregnant! We had planned to leave the boys with their cousins, go to the movies, then onto The Cheesecake Factory for dinner and, most importantly, dessert.

Then, two days before, both of the boys fell ill.

They’ve got coughs, runny noses, they occasionally run a low fever, and yet they’re still pretty cheerful. This did mean that we couldn’t, in good conscience, leave them with anyone else. This also meant that our plans were, officially, scuppered.

When Josh got home from work we did drive down to TCF to pick up some cheesecake, but the place was packed, there were no parking spots, and we decided to salvage what time we had left.

We ended the evening in our pajamas, eating Red Robin, ordered via DoorDash, while watching Brooklyn NineNine.

There’s always next year.

Wow, so sorry!

It seems like someone has been sick here for at least the past month, with both of the boys being ill for a week or so. Sadly this has meant little time for anything other than looking after them.

And now I have to end it early as J2 just woke up from his nap crying.

Things were a little crazy today, the boys were pretty demanding and I barely got anything done around the house, let alone set up to successfully write and publish a post.

I have been working on the decorations here and there and managed to snap a few photos of the boys playing with the lights, so, hopefully, I might have something by the weekend!

Yep. That is all I did today!

I have no time. I feel like for the past few days we’ve been driving at 250 miles an hour and when I put on my brakes all I want to do is sleep. Like. Right. now.

So, I’m going to. I would love to stay up and write super exciting, funny articles, but not getting a good nights’ rest is really affecting me day to day.

So, Goodnight! xxxxx

Diets, Dungeons and Dragons

Thursday evenings are generally my evenings where I’m off Boy duty.

7pm – Js’ bedtime
8pm – My online Slimming World group meeting
9pm – Critical Role!

This evening we started bedtime a little bit earlier, and as this is only the second night that they are sharing a room, it took longer than when it was just J2; but they were eventually down by 7:54, just in time for my SW group meeting.

I joined SW back in England in 2012, and I loved it. I lost about 35lbs in ten months, while still eating all of the foods that I enjoy.

In the meeting we spoke about how to stay on track during the festive season, what tools we could use to help us turn down all the naughty but nice treats, and what foods we could replace them with.

After our meeting had finished, I got Slimmer of the Week btw, I came up with my December Challenge. I see it as a way to keep my head in the game throughout the holidays.

I then settled down to a few hours of watching ‘a group of nerdy-ass voice actors play Dungeons and Dragons.’ Sadly, Josh was feeling unwell and I had to see to the boys throughout the night, and eventually fell asleep towards the end.

Critical Role is what inspired me to start my own campaign, and now that we have fully moved into the new apartment we will be able to play more regularly. I would love to be able to share our sessions via YouTube, and maybe one day I will.

Sleep Study – J2

Problem: J2 can’t stay asleep, and when he wakes up he gets out of bed and comes to our room.

Hypothesis: J2 isn’t used to sleeping on his own in such a large room, so, if we upgrade J3 to the Big Boy room, J2 won’t be lonely and will hopefully stay in bed.

J2 keeps sneaking into our room and popping up by the bed, it’s super creepy y’all!

Method: I moved the crib to J2’s room yesterday morning so he had all day to get used to it, and to learn the ‘no climbing in’ rule.

At bedtime he laid down on his bed while I fed J3 and sang Twinkle, Twinkle over and over and over again.

Twinkle, twinkle, little *snore*

Results: I would say that it was a success. He only got out of bed twice, which were the times that J3 was in our bedroom to feed.

Conclusion: If I stay in their room and feed J3, J2 should have a good night’s rest. We’ll try again tonight and I’ll post about it again tomorrow, although hopefully not at 5am.

our camera just isn’t good enough to pick him up.
