Someone get me a hazmat suit!

Josh was sick before we went to PAX, but he was on the mend and we hoped, foolishly, that he would continue to get better. A busy weekend, coupled with late, restless nights, didn’t give his body many chances to heal.

He eventually felt so bad that he left work early on Friday and went to see a doctor, thinking it was a mild chest infection, only to be diagnosed with acute sinusitis and bronchitis!

J3 decided that he wanted to be just like Daddy and developed a mild fever on Thursday evening, which got up to 101.7 on Friday. His eyes were red, inflamed and ‘gunky’, and he had five poopy nappies! Not just a little poop either, these were all blowouts.

Today J2 joined the party, on the way home from Kroger he made a squelchy noise in his car seat, I looked in the rear view mirror and when I asked him if he was okay his eyes rolled back into his head and that’s when I noticed the vomit. He heaved again, his eyes snapped back, he said, “eww”, and then laughed.

I quickly pulled over, parked in a random car park and cleaned the boy up as best as I could. Fortunately I’d remembered to pick up the change bag so I had wipes, and diaper sacks and, most importantly, a change of clothes for him.

I called Josh on the way home to have him prepare the J’s bedroom so we could put J2 down for a nap as soon as we got in, Josh sounded awful and in the background I could hear J3 crying. It was at that point that I started to feel nauseous.

J2: Vomiting, fever & headache

Now, dear friends, don’t you start to worry about me, I’m not sick. Yet. Just feeling mumtired, so, once the Super Bowl’s over everyone is going to bed!

This week in the World of Slimming 2/2/17

As I said last week, I am starting again.
I asked the moderators to reset my profile, take away all of my awards and put me back to the beginning of the 12 week intro program.

And it worked!

We went to San Antonio, had a great time at PAX, and I was completely off plan. This gave me a massive gain on the scales, I actually ended the weekend at 218.2 pounds!

Tuesday rolled around and I jumped back in with two feet, I had fruit for breakfast, a lovely salad for lunch and made Taco Soup for dinner. Josh wasn’t too keen on the soup, he has an issue with texture and didn’t like the cooked tomato and green chili, next time I’ll blitz it so that it’s smooth. He did like the taste however, and I also forgot to add the frozen corn and cooked rice, so that will give it more body too and make it even more filling than it already is!

Weigh-in day came and I was hoping to be, at most, 215 lbs, just to be back at the beginning and to start again. I was so happy when the scales read 212.0! Not only did I lose my vacation pounds, I lost a little bit more too!

Here’s how I plan on keeping it going this week:

I’ve added a little syn marker where I plan on using syns, and Sunday will be a flexible syn day due to the Super Bowl party we’re heading too. I think that if I can have a blowout weekend and still lose weight during the week, I think I’ll be okay with one synful meal!

This week in the World of Slimming 1/26/17

So, yep, that’s that.

This week I completely fell off of the wagon. Lately I’ve been talking the talk but finding it increasingly difficult to walk the walk, and it finally caught up with me.

There is good news however, while weighing in online I realized what my problem is:

Since Christmas I’ve really struggled to get back into things and the weight has slowly crept back on. I’ve not been dealing with it, just letting it happen, which has made me start to feel really guilty, I’ve had some moments of self-loathing and doubts as to why Josh should care about me if I don’t care about myself. Yep, it got pretty dark at one point.

My solution is to wipe out my history. I’ve asked the admins to remove my awards, and clear out my progress, starting from scratch at today’s weigh in of 213.8 pounds. This way there’s no crushing guilt from knowing that I’ve wasted the hard work of last 6 months, or feeling like I’ve climbed a huge hill only to roll back down and have to start again even though I’m already exhausted.

That all being said, we are going on vacation this weekend. It’s time for PAX South in San Antonio! We are super excited and I plan on being off-plan until Tuesday, from then it will be Slimming World all the way. Josh has even agreed to do it with me, one hundred percent.

This week in the World of Slimming 1/12/17

Before Christmas I was down over 20 lbs! Then the week of our Anniversary happened, and I really didn’t get back to it until Thursday last week… OOPS!

But back I am, even if it is getting off to a slow start…

This last week was still full of holes and bad eating pits that I completely fell into, yet a 2 pound loss is nothing to be sneezed at.

Onwards and downwards as they say in the weight loss world!

2017 Resolutions AKA The changes I’m aiming to make this year.

Happy new year to y’all!

I know I’m almost a week late, it’s been a busy week, but the sentiment was always there.

This busy week has been filled with making plans and setting schedules, organizing our time and generally have a refresh of a lot of things, which brings me to my titular subject today.

Every year I make a resolution, usually along the lines of, “I’ll lose weight this year, look out summer!” And this year is no exception! However, this year I have a set plan, as opposed to the vagueness of ‘eat less, exercise more’.
As you know, in August last year I joined Slimming World USA Online, and over the course of 4 months I lost 20 pounds. Then, over the course of Christmas, I put on 15 pounds, but I’m perfectly okay with that. If I hadn’t lost the weight in the first place, then I would be even heavier than I was in August.
So, my plan for this new year, is to refocus and carry on with SW. It’s the simplest plan I’ve ever made!

As far as other resolutions go, I used my lovely new bullet journal to make a record of them, I spent some time thinking about my life and the things I’d like to change about it.resolutions

As you can see, my aims are pretty varied, and I think that’s a good idea for when you’re making resolutions.

Don’t make your year be so focused on one thing that you pass up other opportunities to change because they don’t fit with The Plan.

One week in and I’m still on track.

  • I’m using an app to read the Bible, it has reading plans to break it down into relevant books and verses.
  • We’ve been to the park a few times and walked the path.
  • I take time every evening to write in my journal and I’m trying to get a new page done every couple of days.

From now on I’ll try to do a monthly report of how I’m doing, and that will be another incentive to keep me on track.

My First Gym Visit…

… for about 6 years.

We are in our third year of living in our current apartment complex, and today, for the first time (now singing For the First Time in Forever) I visited our little gym. It is free to use and very well kept, the only excuse I had, and it was a poor one, was that our old apartment was on the other side of the complex… but now we live just across the road!

Josh got in from work, we ate dinner (BBQ pulled pork sandwiches with mashed potato and vegetables) and Josh gave J2 a bath while I fed J3. Once J2 was in bed I dug out my workout clothes, grabbed a pair of headphones and headed out the door. I then came back inside because I’d forgotten my water, but then I was off!

SW stands for Stilt Walking… only kidding, it’s Slimming World.

Our gym has two treadmills, two ellipticals, dumbbells, a rowing machine, and a couple of weight machines. I, being a novice, stuck to the treadmill, but this wasn’t an ordinary treadmill, it was an iFit. I could watch YouTube videos, use it to control the TV that was mounted on the wall, plug my iPhone into it and play music without using my battery, it even had built in fans! I spent my hour watching Critical Role.

Now, I didn’t get on the treadmill just to faff around with all of the options. I eventually chose to do a ‘trail’ that lead up the western coast of South Africa. It was 3.02 miles long, and the elevation changed throughout the workout. I stuck to a consistent pace of 3mph, but I ran at 5mph a handful of times, and it was a lot easier than I expected! I felt so good in fact, that I could’ve carried on for a while longer, or gone for a walk along the bayou, but my phone ran out of battery almost as soon as I left the building (I didn’t know about the charging thing until I got there.)

Instead, I headed home and walked in to find Josh holding J2, and J3 still awake in the living room.

So, while I was having some ‘me’ time, Josh wasn’t having the most smooth evening at home. J2 had refused to go to sleep, he kept leaving his room, no matter how many warnings he received, Josh even gave him some more milk and let him drink it in bed, but to no avail. J3 had been in the ‘frog bouncer‘ all evening, bouncing himself and giggling away.

As soon as J3 knew I was there he started fussing for food, so I rushed and took and shower, grabbed my pajamas and went to the boys’ room to put them both down. After about 30 minutes of singing Twinkle, Twinkle, and feeding J3 while soothing J2, they were asleep! Then I managed to get my after picture!

And then the evening was my oyster!
